Flu Season Essentials to Keep in your Desk Drawer

Flu season is upon us at full force. While it’s true that the decrease in temperature is the cause of our weakened immune systems, hiding out at your warm desk may do you more bad than good. According to the CDC, the flu virus often spreads through droplets of an infected person’s sneeze or cough, which can be transmitted from up to 6 feet away. What’s more, this virus thrives in dry climates, so the dry air blasting through your office’s heaters only promotes virus transmission.

Lucky for you, I have put together a Flu Season Survival Kit for the office. Keep these items in your desk all autumn and winter to help lower your risk of catching the nasty virus germs.

Emergen-C: This powder comes in little serving sized packets and becomes a tasty citrus drink when added to water. With 1000mg of vitamin C as well as other immune-boosting vitamins, a packet a day will keep the doctor away all flu season long.

Hand sanitizer: Keep a travel-sized bottle of hand sanitizer, such as Purell, nearby at all times. Cold and flu viruses can be passed by simply touching surfaces contaminated by an infected person, then touching your mouth or nose without washing your hands first. With your handy-dandy hand sanitizer, those germs can be eliminated quickly and easily.

Sunflower seeds: Rich in vitamin E, this salty snack is another great way to boost your immune system.

LOTS of water: ALWAYS have a full bottle of water at your desk. I can’t stress enough how important it is to hydrate, especially when your immune system is vulnerable. This helps keep all your body’s systems functioning normally and helps to flush out any toxins that may be hurting you.

Your desk can be a safe haven from cold as long as you’ve got the right tools to stay healthy, but make sure to stock up on these necessities before a coworker sneezes in your direction.
